So many people have been asking me why I’ve been MIA for a while. Well, there has been a lot going on in my life and I just needed to take some time for myself and my family. My son and I drove up to NY for Thanksgiving to be with my family. I had not spent Thanksgiving with my entire family in the last 12 years since we had moved to Atlanta. My 4 year old son hardly knows my family and I feel strongly that he needs to get to know them, especially his cousins which are all around his same age. I was super excited to be able to see everyone because I love spending time with the people I love and care about. We were supposed to go up for a week and one week turned into two.
We were having a blast seeing friends and family and the day before Thanksgiving, on our way to a friend’s house some impatient dumbass decided that he couldn’t wait the three seconds it would take for me to pass by and decided to make a left right in front of me to get into a shopping center. I tried to swerve out of the way so that I wouldn’t hit him and he just slammed right into my car. (pics below – mine is the white one) Of course I freaked out making sure my son was ok and it seemed like a gang of guys came running out of nowhere to help. Two guys came over to my car immediately to get my son and me out of the car. He said to me that my car was smoking and I had to get out of the car right away. Another guy asked my permission to take my son out of the car. It was all happening so fast and my hands were shaking so hard I could hardly take off my seat belt. All of a sudden this girl came running up to us and said that she was a nurse and she wanted to help. Our angels were truly with us that night. I was in shock for a while and all I cared about at that moment was my son. I just wanted to make sure that he was safe, I didn’t care about anything else. One of the police officers that came to the scene (there were many) kept telling me that we needed to go to the ER and that he would call an ambulance.
The EMT’s showed up and they formed a circle around us. There were at least 7 of them. I was being questioned by so many people, the EMT’s and the police officers had so many questions. It was all happening so fast. The EMT’s went to put a neck brace on me and I tried to use my arms to move my hair out of the way. I could not move my arms up to reach my hair. I was so scared. The EMT’s took us to the ambulance and we were on our way. Once inside the ambulance I realized that I had bitten my tongue too! They did all kinds of tests on the way to the hospital and once we got there we were whisked away and taken care of immediately. And by immediately, I mean we were there for about five hours. Thankfully, my parents came down to hang out with us while we waited and waited in between all the tests. I was prescribed a bunch of pain pills, anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory meds. I was told that I would need to see a spine specialist as well.
Since the accident happened the day before Thanksgiving everything was closed until that next Monday. I had to kinda hang out and wait to make appointments. I couldn’t get in to see the spine specialist right away and I had to wait for my favorite chiropractor to get back from Nicaragua, it was crazy. When my treatments finally started I finally started to feel some relief but, the pain was really bad. I had to deal with the insurance company for my car, find a new car, get my son back to school, get back to work and figure out how I was getting home. There was a lot to deal with and things that I’m still dealing with. I am continuing with my treatments here at home and was told today after getting trigger point injections that now I need an MRI. I’m hoping that this test will show what is really going on so we can figure out how to make this pain go away and see if my neck will ever get back to normal.
I just have to say that even though all of this happened, everything always happens for a reason. I am grateful because it could have been much worse and we are still here. We are both still here for a reason, we have a Big purpose in this lifetime and we are going to make a Huge mark on this world!
