Have you ever been on a diet? How many times? Why? Did you just want to lose some weight to fit into an outfit for a special event? Did you think that THIS is going to be THE ONE! THE DIET that will get you to your goal weight once and for all! What kinds of diets have you tried? There are so many out there. How do you choose the right one for you? Are you looking to lose some weight to fit into an outfit for a day or are you looking to lose that weight once and for all? I’ve lost count how many diets I’ve been on over the years. My mom started me on Weight Watchers when I was in Elementary school. I would lose 30 pounds and then gain it back plus more once I stopped. Over and over and over I would start a diet, stop it for whatever reason and gain back all the weight plus more, for years. I dieted my way up to 245 pounds. I never realized that a diet was a short term fix. I just thought that someday I would find that perfect diet that would get this weight off of me forever.
What diets are is a quick fix for a very short amount of time. Diets don’t teach you how to make the long lasting changes that over time will just become part of you so you will adopt a healthy lifestyle. Diets don’t teach you self respect for your body. Most diets don’t make you feel good inside which is why you’ve probably quit after a short time. There are so many diets out there. I could list some here: Macrobiotics, Ayurveda, High Carb, Low Carb, Vegan, Vegetarian, High Protein, The Zone, South Beach, Blood Type, Paleo, Mediterranean, Raw Food, Cleansing, Calorie Restriction, DNA Diet, Weight Watchers, Meal Replacement Shakes, Prepackaged foods and so many more. These are all diets in some form. People ask me all the time, what kind of diet I do. Let me tell you, I don’t. How do you find the right diet for you?
It’s not about choosing the right diet. It’s about finding what works best for you, then creating your own “diet” or “way of life” based on your own nutritional needs and desires. Find what’s right for you. This is actually not something that happens over night. So many people ask me to just give them a meal plan to follow. That my friend, is a diet. Just following the latest fad diet for the moment usually does not help you create the long lasting changes you actually need to lose that weight and life changes necessary to actually keep the weight off forever. It can take time to determine what your body needs daily and I think that can be the frustrating part for most people. I always say, it only comes down to, How Bad Do You Want It?! Once you make that important choice to change your life one step at a time, you will realize how empowered you have become. You will realize that you don’t need to follow someone else’s meal plan and with some guidance and support along the way, you will find that you can control your own destiny and trust your intuition and intelligence. You will know that you will now understand your own nutritional needs, and you will then finally be in a place of lasting health and physical well-being. Your results are worth the extra effort. Why work so hard to get the weight off, feel amazing and then go back to where you started? I’ve kept my weight off for over 17 years just because I love the way I feel now and I am NEVER going back.
